Enabling Water Smart Communities: Who’s who?

The Enabling Water Smart Communities (EWSC) project is led by Anglian Water but with a web of multi-disciplinary supporting organisations which provide a unified approach to the project throughout its lifecycle.

The project is a collaborative effort between all the partners as we work towards our vision of rethinking water stewardship – to accelerate the adoption of integrated water management that supports communities and the environment to thrive.

To deliver this vision we’ve built a task force of water companies, global environmental innovators and leading academics. Our lead delivery partners will ensure our goals are achievable, practical and implementable.

Project delivery partners bring specific expertise through the different phases of the project. Expertise will be used to identify solutions and strategies and that will guide our delivery.

Our lead delivery partners:

Anglian Water is the prime delivery partner and Chair of the Steering Group which is the key decision-making body for the programme. They are the senior owner of the project, responsible for assuring success and leading on the pilots and demonstrator activities.

Arup is responsible for the programme management and framework for the project’s strategic leadership. This includes the overall approach, delivery management and editorial for reports, communications, media coverage etc.

Thames Water are taking a lead on monitoring during the project. This includes monitoring the public sector demonstrator sites and pilots whilst leading the final report on evaluating their success. As a large water company with many urban settings, they are best placed to advise and monitor the effects of our demonstrators in that context.

United Utilities, covers large portions of the North West. They will feed into the key discovery research elements, including leading on the community-led demonstrators and pilots as well as participating on monitoring and evaluation of their success. They cover a population an area of almost 8 million and offer a perspective in less congested situations.

Beyond our lead partner, there are a wide range of organisations involved. These are scenario specific partners such as national water companies and housing groups, all supporting the discovery, development and deployment stages of the project.
